Khuraira Honored IWD14

Khuraira Honored at International Women’s Day 2014

I’m very excited and humbled to share with you some great news. Recently, I was honored at the International Women’s Day on March 7 in New York City by the Society of Foreign Consuls. It was a day filled with celebrating women leaders in our communities as well as recognizing our charitable efforts.

Cause initiatives supported by Khuraira Cosmetics include breast cancer survivors, sickle cell anemia, and education programs for African youth.

Cause: Breast Cancer Survivors

Khuraira Supports Breast Cancer AwarenessKhuraira supports three main causes: breast cancer, sickle cell anemia and education for African youth. Khuraira is a founder of “Spoil Me Pink,” a charitable organization that offers an exclusive and free program at Khuraira’s boutique store once a month for breast cancer survivors or those currently battling breast cancer a day to escape the trials of treatment and its effects by having a chance to enhance their new selves in a fun and positive way.

Cause: Sickle Cell Anemia

Khuraira also works to raise awareness of the horrible disease sickle cell anemia, which has been part her life since she was a child. Growing up in Nigeria, Khuraira witnessed her cousins and friends constantly battle this affliction. Khuraira, who now lives in America, suffered a similar fate when her 8-year son was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia. After nearly loosing him from complications and recognizing the global issue of the disease, she knew it was time, her duty if you will, to do something. Efforts to date include fund raising, being active in media and social media on the topic, as well as plans to start a foundation in her son’s honor.

Cause: African Youth Education

Khuraira’s passion for educating children in her Nigerian village is in honor to her aunt, who truly believes in the power of education. Khuraira’s aunt used her very last dollar to make sure that Khuraira was educated in fulfillment of her promise to a nun, who told her that the best thing she could do for her Orphan niece was to make sure she was educated.

After Khuraira’s aunt passed away in 2012, Khuraira promised to honor her by opening a school in her name: Hajia Zainab Umar Memorial School. Currently, there are 40 pupils of two classes of kindergarten and first grade, and Khuraira is planning to add more every year.

Khuraira Supports African Youth EducationThis award is not just for me, but for all you who shop with Khuraira Cosmetics. It’s because of you – your patronage – that my business is able to support these causes, which are so near and dear to my heart.

I want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping change people’s lives.

Khuraira Cosmetics Seductive Valentines Day Look

Be Flawless for Your Loved Ones This Valentine’s Day

Ladies! V-day is about 360 degree love. So ladies… hear this on Valentine’s Day: Let’s be flawless for the ones we love, for the love that we have for ourselves, and in return basque in love’s sunlit warmth and appreciation!

Valentine’s Day represents a special kind of love. It’s a day to take a moment and appreciate your loved ones with little treats. Here are some tips!

  • Red roses for your spouse. (Yes, send your man some buds!)
  • Celebrate the love of your parents for bringing you into this world and doing their best to raise you. Call them or send them a sweet and sincere note!
  • Give a shout out to your friends with a text or phone call; treat them to their favorite coffee or sweet. (Or pick up the tab at lunch!)
  • For your children, take some extra time and appreciate all the things they do right and give them a pass for life’s  little slip ups.

Most importantly, Valentine’s Day is about creating brand new and sweet memories while gathering together and recollecting your powerful and positive experiences of the past. Playing “Remember When” is a wonderful small talk game as well as trying new things, which create fresh new experiences.

Lastly, because I live in the world of makeup, I must confess that Valentine’s Day is about enhancing features you have and love with the right makeup. You can even create a seductive look for your spouse after your children have gone to bed. I totally recommend a traditional red or pink look for that sassy yet wholesome natural look.

And no matter what, take some time to love yourself. You’re worth it!

Spoil Me Pink Day

Last Tuesday was Spoil Me Pink Day – an exceptionally rewarding yet humbling day for me.

Spoil Me Pink Day serves a singular purpose of giving back and supporting breast cancer. It’s a day filled with providing essential “me” time to newly diagnosed breast cancer survivors; courageous women who are within 1 to 3 years of their diagnosis.

By appointment only and on the hour, these courageous women come in to the Khuraira Boutique – held the first Tuesday of every month for Bergen County residents. These courageous women are treated to a day of style and beauty given with love by the women of Spoil Me Pink, a non-profit charitable organization founded by four women who wanted to help a friend feel good about herself after a very difficult period in her life. The organization’s vision: To give her the gift of a day of total pampering.

Women are masters at juggling it all… career, marriage, children, shopping, and all the responsibilities of everyday life. When a diagnosis of breast cancer enters the picture, putting your life on hold for treatment can be an overwhelming task.

Spoil Me Pink is an a exclusive and free program, designed to give breast cancer survivors, or those currently battling breast cancer, a day to escape the trials of treatment and its effects by having a chance to enhance their new selves in a fun and positive way. During Spoil Me Pink Day, we treat these courageous women to a one-of-a-kind experience. We help them feel gorgeous with a full beauty makeover and personalized style session while they enjoy some homemade treats.

During their 2-hour treatment, they are initially greeted by acclaimed baker and breast cancer survivor Tara DeBenedetto with 30 minutes of tea, treats, and personal sharing. During Tara’s time, she educates these women about what our charitable organization is all about, and shares helpful insight on how to better cope with their own personal situation.

After that, I spend 45 minutes providing some beauty tips and tricks about color cosmetics, skincare, brow shaping, lash treatment and airbrush makeup – all treats to help make her feel and look flawless. We also talk about their beauty concerns when going through their breast cancer treatment.

Next, renowned stylist Jennifer Tannenbaum, who was personally trained by Stacy London of “What Not To Wear,” spends 15 minutes on wardrobe. Jennifer styles them right, showing different ways and looks to help with her new wardrobe concerns.

Finally, accessories guru Jennifer Errity spends 15 minutes showing her the right way to accessorize her wardrobe. A little accent here and there goes a long way and rounds out the 2-hour beauty and style session.

When it’s all done, we take pictures and give them gift bags filled with goodies from our donors. We also provide baby-sitting service for those who need help with child care during those 2 hours.

It’s days like this that speak the truth about how life can be so rewarding yet so humbling and precious. I am so very grateful to be part of days like this and having the opportunity to give back.

If you are or know of someone battling breast cancer, please email me at khuraira@khuraira.com or info@spoilmepink.org with your or their full name and phone number. One of us will reach out to you to discuss your beauty session.
